Coordinated by professors Priscila Lena Farias (since 2009) and Leandro Velloso (since 2022).
Created in 2006, the Visual Design Research Lab - LabVisual brings together researchers from the Design Department at the University of São Paulo Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Design (FAU USP), and colleagues from FAU USP Department of Architecture History and Design Aesthetics and Department of Architecture Technology interested in research in visual design. It has been coordinated by Silvio Dworecki and Clice de Toledo Sanjar Mazzilli from 2006 to 2008, by Priscila Lena Farias and Daniela Kutschat Hanns from 2009 to 2019, and by Priscila Lena Farias and Clice de Toledo Sanjar Mazzilli from 2020 to 2022.
LabVisual currently comprises a research group certified by CNPq (History, Theory and Languages of Design), within which, along its four lines of research (Visual design and languages; Visual design history, theory and criticism; Graphic Memory; and Typographic Landscapes), research projects coordinated by its researchers are developed. LabVisual researchers also participate in the research network on Brazilian Graphic Memory, and in interinstitutional actions involving UNESP Faculty of Architecture, Arts, Communication and Design (Bauru, São Paulo, Brazil), Università IUAV di Venezia (Venice, Italy), and the Centre for Design History at the University of Brighton (UK).
